Colour Forecasting for Spring 2009

Designers usually use dull colours in winters. It seems that those colours were presenting doldrums especially in the depression of the global economy. For instance, the major colours in trend are tomato red and purple and they usually matched with teal blue, gold, grey, blue, olive and so on.

Some stylists or designers would like to explore organic, mineral and synthetic materials in imposing shapes and controlled roughness. Hence, they used subtle darks, asphalt grays, oily greens, earthy browns and the like. Most of the colours in the trend of autumn and winter in 2008 are dull and dark.

However, the new year came. Flowers and plants blossomed and grew strong in springs. Spring symbols freshness, optimism and new beginnings. Therefore, i think designers would like to use bright and fresh colours in the spring of 2009 to give a new hope to all people in the world as one psychologist says that wearing colourful clothes and seeing colourful things can bring happiness to people.

I think that one of the major colours in the spring of 2009 would be yellow such as super lemon, citron, buttercup gold or dawn rise. These colours show hope, freshness, optimism and new beginnings which could response to the theme of spring. For examples, Carmen Marc Valvo designed a dress which used lemon yellow (PANTONE 14-0754) as its signature colour to show the optimism and David Rodriguez used dark citron (PANTONE 16-0435) to convey a sense of wit and playfulness through colours and combinations that make you smile.
